About

One Man Movie (OMM) is a short, 6-8 minute action flick that is being made entirely by myself. I'm doing the writing, directing, acting, editing, music, graphics, and promotional stuff with no help from anyone else. And no, I did not build the camera from scratch, write the software, create the fonts, effects packs, nor the characters clothing. Those are all props and tools. What's a man without his tools? Despite the the short length of the film, it will be weeks (months?) from now before it is completed due to the technical craziness required in order to have multiple characters played by the same person coexist and interact on the same screen. It shouldn't be a problem though. Just time consuming. This blog will follow my day-to-day experiences on developing and releasing the film, mainly because I need SOMEONE to rant to so I don't leak it to real life people. I started the project in early September, when I wrote the story and created the musical score. From then until late September, I fleshed out the story, collected props, and finally bought a slightly better camera. Filming began in late September.

Wednesday - 9/29 - Editing on first scene gets better

More editing today, and the first 20-second scene is starting to patch together better...ly.

Tommorow morning, I promise myself this time, I will be up early and shoot the last few clips for the first little scene.

The windows were definitely not the only problems, but these pics symbolize progress.

Tuesday 9/28 - Editing Continues

I re-shot some car scenes today. It was especially annoying to film backgrounds while I drove down the road, quite scary actually. All the dicks in this town (everyone) thought I was driving too slow, even though I happened to be going through a lot of construction areas with reduced speed limits, and I feel like other drivers are going to think I was filming them and are gonna call the cops. I'm getting really paranoid over this.

Yet, I have even more car stuff to film. Mainly exterior shots. If only I could have a road to myself for once. And I thought the car stuff would be easy. I'm actually looking forward to getting it out of the way.

I'd post progress shots, but progress is being delayed because I'm busy rendering a clip: The background footage, minus my angry rants that can be heard towards the end. I want to forget about it.

EDIT:

I do have a tripod, and I have been using it for everything. Shhh!

Monday 8/27 - Editing Stuff

No filming today, because of school. As mentioned in my previous post, I had a major stomachache this evening, delaying some little bits of progress.

I'm continuing to edit the scene I shot yesterday, which takes place in a car. I've been cropping out and/or "chroma-keying" (essentially blue screening) most of the windows in different angles, because it looks incredibly bright, and the car isn't moving in a number of these shots but I need it to appear so. Hopefully tomorrow morning, before school, I will drive around and get some good footage of scenery by filming out my windows.

 Bah, garbage!

Much better! The yellow will be replaced with new, better quality footage when I get some. In certain shots, I had to tweak the cropping of the windows on every frame, because the characters would move around and their heads would overlap the windows. Also notice the colors have been tweaked to look more film-like. The sunglasses reflection might be a dead giveaway that the car isn't moving, but eh, I don't think I'm gonna touch that.

peace.

today's post

Not much today. I have a serious stomach ache right now though. I'll make a better post in a few hours, but I need to get some rest for now. This post is just to show that I'm still active.

Rough Start

The first day of filming was today. I filmed all the scenes that are in the first 45 seconds, minus two.

I'm not particularly happy about how my characters turn out. I swear to god, I think I'm autistic or something. My voice and facial expressions are weird. I had to lower the pitch of my voice during editing to be comfortable with listening to it, and I already have a super-deep voice as it is (or so they say). Also, I'm not fond of the camera quality in some angles either. What I've edited together looks like crap right now.

In summary, today was a rough day that was quite demoralizing.

But here's an OLD video that I made for fun:

Enjoy. Don't make fun of the satchel, it's Jack Bauer's satchel.

and sorry, I didn't hit most of you back today. It's okay, I can handle a day without all your support. I'll be back tomorrow.

Welcome to the New Blog

Hey guys. This blog used to be called "BobComboBreaker", where I, "BobComboBreaker" would rant about life and a movie project. Now that the movie project is about to begin production, it's time to shift into 100% movie-blogging mode.

Time to reveal some things.

First, my name's not Bob, it's Dillon. Instead of going by BobComboBreaker, I often use the name "Food" around the webs.

My "movie company" is Foodstuffs Productions, or FoodstuffsFilms, however you wanna call it.
This is the logo I made for the company in Photoshop. I did this in December, and I haven't really done anything movie-related since then (except learn some more editing techniques and show my friends some short edits that I've made), because people suck and don't want to exploit my talents I have weaknesses and I need other people to fill in for them. For now, I have to do things on my own, until I can make something REALLY awesome and really convince people what I'm worth. This is partly why I started One Man Movie.

Here's a very low-res version of the animated logo for Foodstuffs Films that I made in Sony Vegas. What a pain that was. I probably should've used Adobe Premiere or After Effects. I love Sony Vegas though. I also made the little song in FL Studio (FruityLoops) 9.

"We" have a YouTube account but there's nothing on it yet. The OMM trailer and movie will be uploaded there when they are finished.

Anyway, that's Foodstuffs Films. Back to One Man Movie....

I still haven't found the main location, but the first scene in the movie does not take place there, and I have a place for that scene. Filming of that scene will occur tommorow morning.

Here's the movie poster :D

The headline is misleading, but catchy enough to work.

peace.

Countdown to Production... 1!

The toy M16 arrived earlier than expected! :D

...and to my surprise, the nozzel is black-colored, instead of orange-colored like it was in the photo online. Less spray-painting for me. The top of the handle is a translucent-blue, but I don't think it's very noticible so I'll just leave it alone.

It smells like new plastic. Awesome.

My mom's starting to get a little worried that people will shoot me if they see me carrying around guns that look real. First of all, I'm not going to be near anyone's property, or in anyone's clear sight, and second of all, there's so many crazy, gun-loving rednecks that have emerged in Arizona over the last couple years that they shouldn't mind... unless I'm on their property... which I won't be.

Besides, I still need to get off my ass and find a location for the main scenes, and I've had all this "other people nearby" stuff in my head all along, and that's what's making it difficult to find such a place. Other than making a few trivial props with things from around the house, that's all that remains of pre-production. Just find the damn location and... uh, plan out the specific gunfight choreography using the location.

So yeah... I'm gonna go walk around. And after that, I'm gonna go drive around.

peace. (really. I don't like guns)

Countdown to Production... 2!

agghhhhhhhh, I just finished visiting the blogs of all my commenters. That took forever.

Sorry for the belated post, I decided to do my homework first today.

The camera arrived today! One more thing checked off the list! For those who don't know, I got this camera. From what I've tested out, it's pretty nice, but I have my complaints. One of which is the 60fps feature (60fps is double the normal frame-rate, meaning it's a slight slow mo). The problem is that instead of recording the sound in slow-mo too, it plays back as alternating 1 second of sound at normal speec, and then 1 second of no sound at all. What is the point of that? They should have just removed sound recording from the 60fps feature, period!

I'll test it out more tomorrow. Since I finished my homework earlier for once, hopefully I'll be able to get some sleep so I can test out the camera/search for filming locations before school starts.

Oh, and last night, I came up with the best way to promote my film when it's done. When I make the trailer, I'm gonna post it on facebook and tag all of my friends in the video. Because of how facebook works, it won't just show up on their walls, but the walls of all of their friends too. I could probably get the word out to the entire school this way. It'll probably show up on practically every student's wall, and if they see multiple of our mutual friends tagged, they'll be more inclined to look at the video. I'm betting that nearly every student who checks their facebook regularly will see it, so that's a fraction of the school right there.

But it's all hopeful thinking that is killing me. I gotta actually make the movie first.

And speaking of hopeful thinking, I've got a poster in the works. It's pretty professional looking. I'll post it in a couple days. Some scenes will be shot this weekend... scenes that I have everything for.

peace

Countdown to Production... 3! (not days, steps)

First day of Autumn. In Arizona, that means it's the first day with high temperatures below 90. But it's still gonna get up to 97 later this week, what a shame. It really should be cooler by now.

As promised, here's the fake pistol pics. You might notice my poor spraying job, but to be fair, this was the first time I've spraypainted anything.

The camera will arrive on Thursday or Friday. The toy M16 should arrive early next week. That gives me little time to find a filming location and create the last prop, but I can still shoot some of the scenes as early as Saturday or Sunday. Once that happens, "pre-production" is "over", and this blog will probably be changed into the "One Man Movie - Development Blog." How exciting. I'll reveal a ton more information to you guys, stuff that my real life audience is clueless about. Note that most of my friends and peers have no idea about this project, and being the loud-mouth that I am, I've needed this blog to keep things, and continue keeping things, under wraps. So thank you.
